Eddie Docherty: NHS 24 Director of Nursing

Role: Director of Nursing & Care

Eddie joined NHS 24 in the Summer of 2018 in a joint Director of Nursing & Care post which is shared with NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

Areas of expertise

Seconded on a part-time basis to Scottish Government to work within the Chief Nursing Officers Directorate on the Transforming Roles programme, which included chairing the work on Advanced Nurse Practice, now Advanced Practice.

Career history

  • Nurse Consultant for Acutely Unwell Adults, leading on the development of Rapid Response Teams, early warning systems and Advanced Nurse Practice (ANP) roles,
  • Senior Nurse Consultant then Associate Nurse Director within NHS Ayrshire and Arran. This included Advanced Practice, but went on to include Primary and Community Care and Lead Nurse for the East Ayrshire Integrated Joint Board
  • Seconded to NHS Orkney as an Associate Nurse Director for 9 months
  • Completed the Scottish Patient Safety Fellowship, part of which included a visit to South Central Foundation in Alaska
  • In 2016, Eddie was appointed Executive Nurse Director for NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
